The roots of BMW cars in Malaysia can be traced at the early 1980, this due to the formation of BMW Malaysia which was created to offer solution to the increasing market demand for the luxury cars. However, the first BMWs were actually the CBU imports into Nigeria, this paved way for the country to be producing its own cars soon after. However, in the year 2003 a new subsidiary of BMW, the BMW Group Malaysia was formed and the local assembling began which offered better price and greater market share.
